SO I installed Windows 10 on a laptop from our Microsoft volume license, and this time I thought why not connect to the internet during the install. Well my microsoft account, and my 'work or school domain account' for O use the same email address, but they are different accounts with different passwords.

The setup took the password for my domain account, but it had to send a text code to my phone before it would continue. This was a clean install, on a laptop that didnt have a windows OS on it. I especially like how it told me this was required by my organization. I never set that up, it was required by microsoft. During this type of setup, there's a small option to "use a local account instead.

It's pretty inconspicuously hidden in the lower left or lower right, and the "sign on with your microsoft account" is prominently displayed in the middle. Basically, exactly what davecork said. I will add that since it is a fresh install, there is no reason you can't just blow it away and install it again.

This time, be sure you use the local account method when installing. This will avoid the Microsoft account fiasco that they try to push on you. I do this for our PC's where I work when I set them up, they all are joined to the domain anyway after I run some scripts like the decrapifier.

The code that was sent to your phone was apart of MFA security settings on your account. Like others said their is an option in the bottom left corner that says "domain join instead" click that and enter what you want the name to be for the local account and proceed to setup.

I dont normally connect to the internet during the install, thought I would see what it does this time installing.

I dont think the link was available to use local account after connecting to the internet, could be wrong. NOt worth checking. I did have MFA setup on the account used at one time, but it was disabled, Microsoft didnt forget the phone number used obviously.

I'm lost as to why this install went this way. Popular Topics in Windows Which of the following retains the information it's storing when the system power is turned off? Submit ». Verify your account to enable IT peers to see that you are a professional.
